Tört-Kuduk
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Tört-Kuduk ("four wells") is a village on the southern edge of the Betpak-Dala, in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 690 (2021 estimate).[1] It was founded in 1964 as the base of a Soviet hydrogeological expedition that drilled boreholes for state-farm flocks on the steppe, and it takes its name from four older hand-dug wells. Most boreholes failed after 1991; since 2010 aid-funded solar pumps have brought eleven of them back into use, and the village is a supply point for herders on the spring and autumn pastures of Keng-Talaa.[2]
