Rabat-i Sangin

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Rabat-i Sangin ("stone roadhouse") is the ruin of a medieval caravanserai in the upper Kara-Buura valley, on the old route over the Talas Alatau to the Chatkal valley, in the Talas Alatau planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. Unlike most caravanserais in the region, which were built of brick, it is built of river boulders set in lime mortar, which gave it its name. Surveys date it to the Kara-Khanid period (11th–12th century). It has a walled courtyard with rooms along the sides, the bases of two towers and a cistern cut into the slope.[1] (See Rabat (Architecture).)
