Patrol: Kara-Bulak

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Patrol: Kara-Bulak is a television police drama broadcast by IradOne. It follows the officers of a post of the Republican Gendarmerie's Highway Patrol Corps at Kara-Bulak, a market town on the Trans-Talas Highway west of Talas. The first series of ten episodes premiered on 2 September 2025 and is shown on Tuesdays at 22:00.[1]

Premise and episodes

Each episode follows the post through one case on the roads of the Talas valley, from lost children and stranded travelers to smuggling. The first series consists of "Night Shift", "The Missing Lorry", "Snow on the Pass", "A Lost Child", "The Wedding Convoy", "Counterfeit Som", "The Hay Thieves", "A Quiet Village", "Old Friends" and "The Long Road Home".[1] The post is commanded by Captain Bolotov, played by Marat Temirbaev, and its officers include a young Iradi-speaking graduate of the Talas Gendarmerie Academy and an older, Russian-speaking sergeant close to retirement, reflecting the division between generations in the real force. Dialogue is mainly in English, with Iradi and Russian.[1][2]

Production

The series was produced for IradOne by Talasfilm Studios with the cooperation of the Gendarmerie, which provided vehicles, uniforms and technical advisers, and approved the scripts. Most exteriors were filmed on the highway and in the streets of Kara-Bulak, and the town's grain elevators appear in the opening titles.[2] As a commissioned drama it did not take the "One" prefix used for IradOne's in-house English-language programs.

Reception

The series drew a large audience for its late-evening slot, and the Gendarmerie reported a rise in applications to the academy after its broadcast.[2] Reviewers in Talas praised its location filming and its acting, but described its stories as mild. Press-freedom and human rights groups, which have documented allegations of torture and arbitrary detention by Gendarmerie units, described it as a recruitment film for the force, and noted that it was broadcast within two years of the force's role in dispersing the 2023 Student Protests in Talas.[3] IradOne said the series honored "the ordinary officers who keep Irad's roads safe".[1]
