La Colonia (TV program)
La Colonia is a weekly bilingual English and Spanish magazine program on IradOne, the state broadcaster of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ). Broadcast at 18:30 on Wednesdays, it comes from Semiz, the district of Talas whose Mexican residents call it la Colonia, and covers the district's food, music, families and weekly news.[1] Semiz has been the center of Irad's Mexican community since the SuKarne plant opened in 1999 (see Mexicans in Irad).[2] The half-hour program was launched in 2009, ten years after the opening of the Sukarne Irad Complex, and kept its title when IradOne's own English-language programs adopted the "One" prefix in 2016. Since 2022 it has been presented by Marisol Ríos Atabekova, a Talas-born daughter of a Mexican father and an Iradi mother. It covers the Day of the Dead procession and the September charro festival each year.[1]
