Kyzyl-Bel
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Kyzyl-Bel ("red saddle") is a hamlet in the upper Chatkal valley, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR), at the foot of the Kyzyl-Bel Pass. Its population is about 420 (2022 estimate).[1] The houses stand below bluffs of red Devonian sandstone and conglomerate, which give the hamlet and the pass their name.[2] Families keep sheep and yaks and put up herders driving flocks over the pass to the summer pastures; in winter the hamlet is often cut off by snow for weeks.[1]
