Keneshbek Choro uulu

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Keneshbek Choro uulu (1938 – 2015) was an Iradi eagle hunter (berkutchi) from the upper Talas valley. Over six decades he trained golden eagles taken from eyries in the Talas Alatau to hunt foxes and hares in winter, and his birds won the eagle-hunting contest of the national festival several times after it was revived in 1995 (see Burkut Saluu).[1] He taught the craft to apprentices from both sides of the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line, and his methods of training and releasing eagles after a few seasons were recorded by ethnographers of Talas State University.[2]
