Kashkar-Aryk
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Kashkar-Aryk ("Kashgar canal") is a spring-fed stream and canal in the northern part of Talas. It rises from springs at the foot of the river terrace below the Old Talas Citadel Quarter and flows for about five kilometers through gardens and orchards to the Talas.[1] Its name is traditionally explained by Kashgari gardeners who settled beside it in the 19th century. Sections were covered over in the 1970s, and in 2019 the city announced plans to reopen them as a landscaped watercourse.[2]
