Kara-Suu Rapids

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Kara-Suu Rapids are a series of cascades and small waterfalls on the upper Kara-Suu in the Talas Alatau, on the tribal side of the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line, just above the gorge that gives the village of Chong-Kapka its name, at about 2,290 meters. Over about two kilometers the river drops about 150 meters through a narrow cleft in granite.[1] A herders' path climbs beside them to the upper valley. Downstream, the river passes through the Kara-Suu Canyon and drives the Kara-Suu Hydroelectric Station.[2]
