Kara-Kungey

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Kara-Kungey ("dark sunny slope") is a village on the south-facing side of a valley in the northern Talas Alatau, in the Talas Alatau planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 610 (2022 estimate).[1] As its name suggests, the houses and apple orchards face the sun (kungöy), while snow lies on the shaded opposite slope (teskey) into early summer. Its families grow apples and potatoes and keep cattle and sheep.[2]
