Kara-Jylga

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Kara-Jylga ("black gully") is a village at the head of a side valley north of the Toktogul Reservoir, in the Toktogul–Naryn planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 540 (2023 estimate).[1] It is reached by a 24-kilometer dirt track that snow and avalanches close for much of the period from December to March, when the village can be reached only on horseback. In February 2012 avalanches cut it off for five weeks, and flour and fuel were brought in by pack horse.[2]
