Kara-Jygach

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Kara-Jygach ("black elm") is a village on the southern slopes of the Chatkal range above the Fergana Valley, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 1,640 (2021 estimate).[1] The village stands at the lower edge of the walnut-fruit forest. Families hold harvesting plots in the forest under allotments that the village council of elders renews every five years, and the September harvest of walnuts, with dried wild apples and plums, is sold to traders from Bazar-Korgon.[2]
