Kümüshtü Tailings
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Kümüshtü Tailings (Iradi: Kümüshtü kaldyk saktagychy) is a capped tailings deposit in the upper Talas valley, about 4 kilometers south-south-west of the village of Kümüshtü, in the Talas District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), at about 42°26′N 72°42′E. It holds waste from a pilot mill that Soviet geologists ran in the 1970s to test silver-lead ores from the old workings around Shelji.[1] After villagers complained of dust blowing from the deposit, the ISEZ Ministry of Natural Resources covered it with clay and soil in 2012.[1]
