Kök-Jar Primary School

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Kök-Jar Primary School is a four-classroom primary school at the old mine camp of the former mining village of Kök-Jar, about 5 kilometers down the valley from the village, in the eastern Chatkal range, in the Chatkal Highlands zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. Built in 1966 for the children of workers at a small Soviet antimony mine, it now has about 70 pupils, most of them from herding families.[1] During the territorial period it taught in Iradi and English, with English teachers supplied by an aid program. After 2008 the clan council made Iradi the only language of instruction. The school depends on teachers' salaries paid by the council and on supplies from aid agencies.[1]
