Jaynak (Horse)

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Jaynak (Iradi: "sparkling"; foaled 1921) was a golden Akyel stallion bred by Itbai Kapar uulu in the walnut hills of the Fergana rim. He was entered as No. 1 in the first Akyel studbook in 1927, and most registered Akyels trace to him in the male line.[1]

History

Itbai Kapar uulu kept a small herd of horses of the old type in the walnut-forest hills above the Fergana Valley, where pale and golden horses with a metallic coat were prized. In the mid-1920s the zootechnicians of the republican horse-breeding trust toured the private and collective herds in search of foundation stock for a studbook of the Akyel, and Jaynak was bought for the trust's stud. When the first studbook was opened in 1927 he was entered as its first stallion.[1]

His portrait by Ermek Saparbekov, who painted the founding stallions of the Akyel and Chongtor studbooks for the trust, was bound into the studbook and is kept with it in the State Archives of Irad (Fond 218).[2]

Legacy

The Akyel Equine Logistics & Breeding Syndicate, which keeps the National Akyel Studbook, traces most registered Akyels to Jaynak in the male line, among them the stallion Uchkun (foaled 1959), whose medal in Moscow in 1967 brought the breed into the all-Union register (see List of notable horses of Irad).[1]
