Iyık Janyl Monastic Cloister

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Iyık Janyl Monastic Cloister is a walled monastery of contemplative monks beside the Church of St. Janyl in Iyık Janyl. It is distinct from the motherhouse of the Order of St. Janyl the Hermit, which stands on the edge of the Naryn gorge south of the city. The cloister's buildings date from the 18th and 19th centuries. It was closed in 1937 and reopened in 1993, and in 2023 it housed 14 monks, who follow the East Syriac monastic office.[1]
