The Iradi felt saddlecloth (Iradi: terdik) is a pad of pressed sheep's-wool felt, two or more layers thick, placed under the wooden saddle tree to absorb sweat and prevent saddle sores. It is quilted and edged with leather.[1] On festive occasions a decorated cloth (tokum), embroidered or worked in appliqué, is laid over the saddle. Saddlecloths are made mainly by women's felt cooperatives in the Autonomous Tribal Regions and sold in Talas and to tourists (see Shyrdak (Iradi Craft)).[1]
