Chatkal Mountain Rescue Base
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Chatkal Mountain Rescue Base is a mine and mountain rescue station in Sary-Bulak District, near the Chatkal Chemical Smelting Complex. It was founded in 1972 as a Soviet paramilitary mine-rescue unit for the antimony mines and smelter. Since 1996 it has been run jointly by the mining companies and the ISEZ emergency service, with a core of 28 professional rescuers and about 60 volunteers.[1] It keeps snowmobiles and off-road vehicles and calls on helicopters chartered from Iradiya for evacuations. Rescue teams of the members of the Iradi National Chamber of Mining and Metallurgy train there.[2]
