Bel-Aldy

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Bel-Aldy ("below the pass") is a hamlet in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR), at the foot of the bridle paths that cross the Chatkal range to the northern Fergana Valley. Its population is about 230 (2022 estimate).[1] Pack-horse guides from the hamlet take traders and herders over the passes between July and September, and families keep fresh horses that travelers can hire in exchange for their tired mounts, a practice dating from the courier stations of the Kokand period.[2]
