Ak-Muz

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Ak-Muz ("white ice") is a permanent snowfield on the southern slopes of the eastern Talas Alatau, above the upper valley of the Uzun-Akmat, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. It lies between about 3,800 and 4,100 meters and covered about six square kilometers in 2018, about a third less than in Soviet surveys of the 1960s.[1] Its meltwater feeds the Uzun-Akmat in July and August, when it makes up a substantial share of the river's flow into the Toktogul Reservoir.[2]
