Ak-Jal

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Ak-Jal ("white mane") is a village on the southern edge of the Betpak-Dala steppe, in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 830 (2021 estimate).[1] Its families keep large herds of horses that graze on the open steppe all year, pawing through thin snow for grass in winter. Riders and horses from the village regularly enter the autumn at chabysh race on the nearby Keng-Talaa grassland.[2]
