Uzun-Akmat Terraces
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Uzun-Akmat Terraces are stone-walled agricultural terraces on the slopes of the lower Uzun-Akmat valley above the Toktogul Reservoir, around the village of Ozgörüsh, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. The terraces climb up to about 200 meters above the valley floor, and their dry-stone walls are up to two meters high.[1] Some walls belong to villages flooded by the reservoir in the 1970s and are thought to be at least two centuries old. They are planted with vines, apricots and walnuts and watered by channels from side streams; terraces left unused since the 1990s are collapsing.[2]
