Track of the Snow Leopard

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Track of the Snow Leopard (Iradi: Jolborstun Izi; Russian: След снежного барса) is a 1983 Soviet Eastern, the debut feature of Kairat Amankulov, made at Talasfilm Studios. In the early 1930s a border-guard tracker follows a band of smugglers through the passes of the Tian Shan toward the Chinese frontier, alone for much of the film after his patrol turns back in a blizzard. Music is by Asan Jumabaev, the composer of Desert Sun’s Rebellion.[1]

It moved the Eastern from the desert to the high mountains, with location work above the snow line in the Talas Alatau, and established Amankulov as a director of landscape and endurance, the qualities of his second film, Journey of the Steppes (1988).[1]
