Tian Shan Barberry

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Tian Shan barberry is a name used in Irad for the barberries (Berberis) of the foothills and mountain slopes, mainly Berberis integerrima, with red fruit, and B. oblonga, with dark purple fruit. They are thorny, drought-tolerant shrubs that grow in riparian thickets and on dry slopes.[1] The tart dried berries are used to flavor plov, sauces and tea, and the yellow roots are a traditional folk remedy.[1]
