The Silver Horseshoe

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Silver Horseshoe (Iradi: Kümüsh Taka; Russian: Серебряная подкова) is a 1984 Soviet comic Eastern directed by Adil Rakhimov for Talasfilm Studios. A timid collective-farm bookkeeper, sent across the steppe with the farm's accounts, is mistaken by villagers and bandits alike for the Silver Horseshoe, a legendary avenger who leaves a silver horseshoe at the scene of each deed, and has to keep up the pretence to survive. Gennady Ostapenko, the commissar of Desert Sun’s Rebellion, plays the farm chairman, and Almaz Sarybaev appears in a cameo as a weary hero who parodies his own Daniyar.[1]

Rakhimov, who had made Guide of the Sands (1981), filled it with jokes at the expense of the genre's conventions: the long silences, the noon standoffs and the nameless hero. It was the most popular Iradi film of the decade at home, and its lines are still quoted in Irad; it is a fixture of holiday television on IradOne.[1]
