Temirchi
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Temirchi ("blacksmith") is a village in the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), about 15 kilometers north of Nurzhan. Its population was 1,040 (2018 census).[1] A Soviet machine-and-tractor repair station employed many of its men from 1950 to 1993, and a dozen family forges still make horseshoes, stirrups, knives and hand tools sold in the Nurzhan bazaars. Iradi ethnographers have recorded smithing families who trace their trade back to the 19th century.[2]
