Tar-Kapchygai

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Tar-Kapchygai ("narrow gorge") is a granite gorge on the middle course of the Uzun-Akmat, between its upper pastures and the lower valley above the Toktogul Reservoir, in the Autonomous Tribal Regions. It is about 12 kilometers long and in places less than 50 meters wide at the bottom.[1] Its shaded floor and lower slopes carry woods of birch, rowan and willow. A track used by herders moving between the lower villages and the summer pastures follows the gorge and is often blocked by rockfalls in spring.[2]
