Suusamyr Wool Washing Mill

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Susamyr Wool Washing Mill is a cooperative wool-scouring plant in the Suusamyr valley (also spelled Susamyr), in the Kyrgyz Range–Suusamyr planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). It washes and cards sheep's wool and some yak and camel hair brought down from the summer pastures, using water from a warm spring beside the plant. Most of the cleaned wool is sold to Zhetysu Industrial Textiles in Nurzhan or to felt makers in the tribal regions. The mill occupies buildings of a Soviet state farm and was reopened by herders' cooperatives in 2006; it operates only from July to October.[1]
