St. Teresa Community Kitchen

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The St. Teresa Community Kitchen is a soup kitchen in Nurzhan that serves a daily hot meal to about 300 elderly pensioners, disabled former industrial workers and other people in need. It was opened in 1998 by the Latin-rite Catholic parish of St. Teresa, whose members descend mainly from Poles and Germans deported to the Kazakh steppe in the 1930s and 1940s, and it is one of the few Catholic institutions in Irad outside the Syro-Iradi Catholic Church. Most of its guests are Russian-speaking.[1]
