Sadaf-Jar

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Sadaf-Jar ("shell cliff") is a line of sandstone bluffs on the northern rim of the Fergana Valley, above the Uzbek frontier near the point where the Naryn leaves Irad, in the Lower Naryn District of the Irad Special Economic Zone. The cliffs, about 40 meters high, expose red and grey Paleogene sandstones and marls with beds of fossil oyster shells, from which the Uzbek-speaking villagers named them.[1] Long-legged buzzards and kestrels nest on the ledges.[2]
