Radiobazar

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Radiobazar (Nurzhan Radio Bazaar; Russian: Радиобазар) is the electronics market of Nurzhan, a block west of the south end of Azatlık Prospect. It began in 1990 as a Sunday swap meet of radio amateurs outside the Kobozev radio club and became a daily market in 1993. Since 1998 it has been run by Radiobazar JSC, a company of about 200 stallholders, on city land leased for 25 years and renewed in 2023. Its chairman since 2011 has been Konstantin Kalinin, the radio club's last Soviet instructor.[1]

The market has about 420 places in 14 covered rows and is closed on Mondays. It sells phones and accessories, computers and parts, radio and electrical components and used goods, and has a row of repair stalls. The founder of the electronics chain Signal began there with a radio-parts stall in 1994, and the members of tüntolk built their effects pedals from parts bought there. The press describes the area as the territory of the "Dastgoh garages crew" (see Dastgoh District).[1]
