Operation Clear Skies (2020)

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Operation Clear Skies was a joint project of the Republican Gendarmerie of Irad and US personnel in 2020 to strengthen security at Talas Air Base after incursions by surveillance drones. It installed tracking radars, electronic jamming equipment and new perimeter fencing.[1] Under the base's security arrangements, US forces guard their own areas while the Gendarmerie, commanded by Major General Ruslan Toktarov, guards the outer perimeter and the approach roads. The authorities did not publicly identify the origin of the drones.[2]
