From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Moldosh Ömürbek uulu (1861–1916) was an Iradi volost head who led the rising of the Talas valley in 1916, part of the Semirechye Revolt, and was hanged in Verny that October.[1]
Life
He had served the Russian administration as head of a volost. When the decree of June 1916 called up herders for labour behind the front, he turned against it.[1]
The rising
In August 1916 he led riders against the settler villages and the garrison of Talas. When the rising was crushed he was taken at a ford of the Talas, tried by a field court and hanged with others in Verny in October.[1]
Legacy
Soviet historians made him a hero of the struggle against colonialism, and a street in Talas still bears his name.[1]
