Kumdy-Bulak

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Kumdy-Bulak ("sandy spring") is a perennial spring on the southern edge of the Moiynkum sands, in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. Water rises from beneath the foot of the dunes at about two liters per second and is led into a fenced trough of concrete.[1] It is the only perennial water within a day's walk, and in winter several thousand sheep and the camels and horses of neighboring camps are watered there; clan elders set a rota for its use in dry years.[2]
