Kaz-Köl
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Kaz-Köl ("goose lake") is a group of shallow saline lakes in depressions on the southern Betpak-Dala, in the Northern Steppe planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. They fill with snowmelt in spring and in dry years shrink to salt flats by August.[1] In April and May, and again in September, they are a stopover for migrating waterbirds, including greater flamingos, ruddy shelducks and several species of geese. Ornithologists counted about 1,200 flamingos there in May 2016.[1][2]
