Jashyl-Köl

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Jashyl-Köl ("green lake") is a seasonal settlement at about 1,530 meters in the valley below a moraine-dammed lake of the same name, which lies at about 2,600 meters on the southern slopes of the Chatkal range, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). About 25 herding families live there in yurts from late June to early September.[1] The lake's green color comes from fine rock flour carried in by meltwater. The families graze sheep and yaks on the meadows up to the lake and sell dairy products to trekkers on the route to Sary-Chelek.[2]
