Jangy-Aryk
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Jangy-Aryk ("new canal") is a concrete-lined irrigation canal about 25 kilometers long in the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone, north of Nurzhan. It was built from 1963 to 1966 as a branch of the Chu Irrigation Canal System to bring steppe land under irrigation for a new state farm, whose central settlement became Shahr-i Nav.[1] It carries about four cubic meters per second at full flow and irrigates about 5,000 hectares of lucerne, maize and barley. Its lining was repaired with aid funds in 2012.[2]
