Eski-Korgon
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Eski-Korgon ("old fort") is a village in the Kara-Buura District of the Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ), on the old road down the lower Talas valley toward the Kazakh border. Its population was 1,460 (2018 census).[1] The village grew up around a mudbrick fort (korgon) built by the Khanate of Kokand in the 1830s to guard the road and collect duties from caravans. The fort was abandoned after the Russian advance of the 1860s, but stretches of its walls, up to four meters thick at the base, survive among the gardens.[2]
