Chopo-Jar
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Chopo-Jar ("clay cliff") is a line of red clay bluffs on the northern rim of the Fergana Valley, in the Lower Naryn District of the Irad Special Economic Zone, near the village of Sopol-Tepa. The bluffs, up to 30 meters high, expose beds of fine red and yellow clay of Neogene age.[1] Potters from Sopol-Tepa dig clay from pits at their foot, and red ochre from the bluffs was formerly ground for pigment.[2]
