Chongtor Roan Strain
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
The Chongtor roan strain is the group of Chongtor horses with roan coats, recorded as a color line by the Chongtor Studbook Registry. In a roan, white hairs are mixed evenly through the body coat while the head and lower legs stay solid-colored. Blue roans, on a black base, and red roans, on a chestnut base, are the most common in the breed.[1] Roan is inherited as a dominant trait. Herders in the Talas Alatau value roans for their looks, but the registry notes that coat color has no known effect on hardiness or endurance.[1]
