Chakmak-Say

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Chakmak-Say ("flint ravine") is a seasonal torrent on the western slopes of the Chatkal range near the border with Uzbekistan, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. It is about 18 kilometers long and flows only from April to June, when the snowfields above it melt; for the rest of the year its bed is dry gravel.[1] It joins the Chatkal below the main gorges. Its name comes from the flint nodules in its limestone gravels, which herders once collected for strike-a-lights.[2]
