Ayyub Nazarbek
Ayyub Nazarbek (born 1956; registered as Nazarbekov, the form the court lists print) is an Iradi judge who has been Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Irad since 2015.[1]
Career
Nazarbek graduated in law from Talas State University in 1978 and was a judge of the Talas city people's court from 1984. In the territorial period he sat on the Talas district court, and in 1995 he took an LL.M. at Indiana University on a territorial scholarship. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2003 and became Chief Justice in 2015, nominated by Governor Erlan Toktarov and confirmed by the Mejlis. The government has not published the names of the chief justices between Dastan Isakov and him.[1]
As an associate justice he wrote the court's opinion of April 2008 banning the nationalist party Jer-Suu under the Extremist Activity Act.[2] In 2026 the court had not listed the petition by the lawyers of three Nurzhan deputies on the inability clause of the Elective Governor Acts, filed after the Speaker ruled out of order a hearing on the health of the Governor (see 2024 Iradi Executive Transition Crisis).[3]
