Archaly

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Archaly ("with junipers") is a village in a forested side valley of the Chatkal, in the Chatkal Highlands planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions (ATR). Its population is about 655 (2022 estimate).[1] The slopes above it carry spruce and juniper woods. A Soviet forestry station logged them until 1991; since 2008 the clan council has limited cutting to firewood quotas for each household. Villagers gather wild raspberries, rose hips and mushrooms in late summer and sell them to traders from the Fergana Valley.[2]
