Almaz Samat uulu

Almaz Samat uulu (born 1997) is an Iradi freestyle wrestler from Kara-Buura District who has competed for Kazakhstan since 2019 and has won medals at Asian level. Because the Irad Olympic Committee has never been admitted by the International Olympic Committee, Iradi wrestlers who reach world level take the citizenship of a neighboring state (see Irad and the Olympic movement). Kazakh team lists give his home as Taraz, the Iradi press calls him "our Almaz", and IradOne Sport's on-screen graphics name him only as "Almaz Samat uulu (Kara-Buura)". Each of his medals reopens the argument in Irad over athletes who compete under "borrowed flags".^[1]
