Ak-Suu Mineral Springs

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Ak-Suu Mineral Springs are a group of warm, naturally carbonated springs at the foot of the Ak-Suu Canyon on the western Talas Alatau, within the Aksu-Zhabagly nature reserve, in the Talas Alatau planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. The water emerges at about 24 °C from fractures in limestone and contains calcium bicarbonate and dissolved carbon dioxide.[1] Herders bathe in small stone-lined pools to treat joint pains, a use recorded in Soviet resort surveys. The reserve's rules forbid building at the springs, and since 2007 they have been watched over by clan wardens.[2]
