Zhez-Tyrmak (Mythology)

Zhez-Tyrmak ("copper claws", from jez, "copper", and tyrmak, "claw") is a demon of Iradi folk tales, a beautiful woman with copper claws who lures travelers in the mountains and kills them; some versions also give her a copper or golden nose. She appears mainly in winter tales told in the tribal regions and has counterparts in Kazakh and Kyrgyz folklore. In a common ending, a hero recognizes her by the clink of her claws.
