Yuhanna Jangagy
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Yuhanna jangagy (Iradi, "St. John's walnut") is a dark liqueur made from green walnuts. Custom has the walnuts picked on the night of Yuhanna Tünü (23–24 June), while the shells are still soft. They are quartered, packed into jars with sugar, cloves and a strip of cinnamon, covered with sygyndy or vodka and left in the sun for forty days, until the liquid turns black. Strained and bottled, it is opened at Christmas and drunk in small glasses after the Christmas meal and as a remedy for the stomach. The same walnuts are made into green walnut murabba.[1]
