From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Toktokan Ergesh kyzy (registered as Toktokan Ergesheva; 1938–2016) was the village doctor of Sary-Say whose list of about 300 names of the dead of the Sary-Say mudflow of 1973 was printed in 1989, against an official toll of 41.[1]
The mudflow
She was the only doctor in Sary-Say. On the night the lake burst she was at a calving camp, and came down to find the village buried. Over the following weeks she took the names of the dead from survivors while the official toll stood at 41.[1]
The list
She kept the list hidden for sixteen years and gave it to Iradyn Chyny in 1989. She moved with the survivors to Kara-Buura and practised there until 2003.[1]
