Talgat Osmonov

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Talgat Osmonov (1926–1994) was an Iradi newsreel cameraman and film director from Talas. From 1948 he worked as a cameraman and documentary director at the Talas newsreel studio and later at Talasfilm Studios. His only feature film, Rise of Glory (1979), a four-hour history of the Iradis from the taming of the first horse to the Soviet present, was commissioned for the republic's fiftieth anniversary in 1975 and finished four years late. He wrote it himself and shot it with his newsreel crew, and its hour-long opening in apparent real time and its shifting narrator still divide critics. To save the film he cut a shot of a rider in white that the republican committee had called "mysticism"; it was restored in 2019.[1]
