Serik Amanov (born 1965) is an Iradi painter known for landscapes and scenes from Iradi folklore painted in flat, pure colour. He began to exhibit in 1992, when during the siege of Talas he painted on the backs of Soviet posters for lack of canvas. He has exhibited in Almaty, Bishkek, Chicago and Bonn. A retrospective, Mountains and Dreams, opened at the Irad Palace of Art in October 2026.[1]

Work

Amanov paints in flat, saturated colour with fast strokes, a manner he traces to his grandmother's felt rugs and to a book of Matisse reproductions he bought in Almaty in 1983. Folklore Dreams (2019) shows Janyl and the White Rider under the star of Irad.[1]
