Pavel Morozov

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Pavel Morozov (1910 – 1985) was a Soviet epidemiologist who directed the antimalaria campaign in the Chu and Talas basins after the Second World War. Malaria, carried by Anopheles mosquitoes breeding in irrigation channels and rice paddies, had spread widely during the war years.[1] As head of the republican antimalaria station in Kobozev from 1946, Morozov organized the spraying of DDT, the drainage of marshes and the mass treatment of patients. Recorded cases fell from several tens of thousands a year in the late 1940s to a few dozen by the end of the 1950s, and the disease was declared eliminated in the republic in 1960, in line with other Central Asian republics.[2]
